The parked car scenes from The Dutch House stick in my mind that way, too--more vivid than almost anything else I've read in years. Maeve stays with me because she is such an odd mix of stubborn/stuck and generous/expansive.
I finished O Pioneers! tonight and it destroyed me! But the Cather I would recommend first is The Song of the Lark.
I loved Orbital! I think you would really love Stoneyard Devotional if you haven't read it yet. Loved reading excerpts of Headache! Definitely want to read the whole thing
I have Stoneyard Devotional on hold at the library right now-- hoping it comes in soon! I read about it multiple places, but I think you may have been one of them. And yes, there are some excellent parts of Headache. The structure of it is just a bit frustrating, and some of the points near the end weren't as convincing. But still a good read.

I love Maeve. And the temporal structure of that novel--the way it moves back and forth so fluidly in time--was so perfect.
I've only read My Antonia, so I'll have to add more Cather to my list. Writing both of those down right now!
